A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure to be interviewed by Ivar Ekman, who came from Sweden for the occasion. Ivar works for “Konflikt”, a renowned current foreign affairs show on Sveriges Radio, the national public service broadcaster of Sweden. We drove together to Herstal to take the picture you’re seing now and to talk about the Belgian guns I’ve found in Libya and why it is important to study that case and to think about the dilemma Syria represents for the Belgian arms sector. We could not enter the factory, but we visited a school: L’Ecole d’Armurerie Leon Mignon. Some of the students there will end up in the FNH custom shop and work on customised weapons such as the golden FN Browning HP found on Muammar Gaddafi on October 20, 2011. Looking at that pistol, one can identify the artist who upgraded it to the object most of you certainly saw already: P. LALLEMAND. According to a professor we met at the Leon Mignon school, Mister Lallemand studied there. Believe it or not, for me it was the first visit to Herstal.
